đŸŸ What Does It Mean When a Dog Is Pedigree Certified?

Ever wondered what it really means when a puppy is “pedigree certified”?
In simple terms, it means your pup’s family tree has been officially recorded and verified by a recognized kennel club. So you know your puppy comes from a line of the same breed.

A pedigree certificate usually includes:

  • Your dog’s registered name and breed

  • Its parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents

  • The breeder’s details

  • The kennel club’s official stamp or seal

Think of it as your dog’s “family history” — showing its purebred background and the breeder’s accountability.

A pedigree certificate simply confirms that your dog is purebred and officially registered. It does not confirm that your dog is free from any genetic issues. Every breed can have its own common traits or quirks, and that’s completely normal. Good breeders work hard to pair healthy dogs and maintain strong, well-tempered bloodlines — and pedigree records help make that possible.

So while the certificate doesn’t act like a health report, it does show that your puppy comes from a known, monitored lineage with responsible breeding behind it.

đŸš« Watch Out for Fake Certificates!

Sadly, not every certificate you see online is real. Some sellers print look-alike documents that seem official but aren’t backed by any legitimate kennel club.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

  • Always verify the certificate with the issuing kennel club online(like the Singapore Kennel Club).

  • Check the registration number online or contact the club directly.

  • Be cautious if someone says “no papers, but same thing” — it’s usually not!

A genuine pedigree certificate can always be traced to a real registry.

đŸš« What do other owners request for usually?

Kennel club registered puppies will usually come with a Ownership transfer form or the certificate (depending on the issuing club and country. You will find the puppy and litter registeration details on the form. With these details, you will be able to find their family details on the official website. Below is a sample of the Ownership Transfer Form issued by the Official UK Kennel Club.

Most of our clients will opt for the 3 or 5 Generation Certification for their keepsake at an additional fee. This A4-sized certificate includes information on five generations of your pedigree dog's ancestry. For the dog you need the pedigree for it will include the breed, sex, date of birth, registration/stud book number and colour, however, this will not be included for the other generations. The name of breeder will also be included.
